Lindy Hop /
Swing
Lindy Hop is an Afro-American
swing dance that originated in America’s black ghettos in the
late 1920s. It evolved from the Charleston and is danced on swing
music. Whereas the Charleston involved dancing in "closed" position,
Lindy Hop has the partners breaking away, yet still coming together
and breaking away.
Lindy hop combined elements of jazz dance with earlier dances such
as the Big Apple, Texas Tommy, Cakewalk, and the Charleston. |
