Q.What
is a Dance Extra?
A. A Dance Extra is a person with dancing skills who fills up the background
of a scene during the filming of a TV program or a movie. This enables more
realism and makes the scene look more like real life. Generally, Dance Extras
are not required to speak, but will be asked to dance in the background of
the scene that is being filmed.
Q. I am not a professional dancer and have never worked in the media industry;
can I still get work as a Dance Extra?
A. Yes you can! As long as you enjoy dancing, whatever dancing you may do at
any level, and have some time to spare or can easily take time off work, then
you can apply to work as a Dance Extra.
Q. Do I need to have professional photographs taken in order to register as
a Dance Extra?
A. No, you don’t. Casting Agents prefer seeing simple snapshots of you
rather than heavily styled, posed pictures. Ideally, two photos, a portrait
and a full length picture are adequate.
Q. What does our Agency do?
A. We have a register of male and female dancers of all standards accessible
to our clients on-line. Dance Extras are being put forward for TV commercials,
films, drama series, corporate events and promotional work. It is the agency’s
job to promote you as a Dance Extra, arrange details of any assignments and
manage or choreograph the Extras during filming if required by the client.
Q. What happens when you are chosen for an assignment?
A. We often get very little notice given to us by our clients. It is therefore
essential for us have a contact number where we can reach you at any time.
We will always aim to give our Dance Extras as much notice as possible, but
sometimes this can be very short notice. When we contact you to make a booking,
if you are in any doubt as to your availability, please tell us immediately.
If you can accept the assignment, we will give you full details of the time,
location, dress code and any special instructions as soon as these have been
received from the client. Note that we often receive the address of the filming
at a day’s notice. The length of time you may be required to work on
a film set can vary enormously – filming is never completed until the
director says, "it’s a wrap". After filming, please make
sure you always complete the release form/time sheet that will be issued
to you that day. Remember that once you have accepted an assignment, you
will be expected to arrive on time at the given location as the Film Director
will not wait for you!
